Fit for '15 ~ The RFU's Improving Social Spaces Project
As part of the lead up to the 2015 Rugby World Cup, the RFU made funding available to clubs to improve their "social spaces" - the areas of a club used for social purposes. The aim was to make clubs more attractive and places that potential members would like to spend time in - including watching World Cup games.
The RFU offered to match funding that we were able to raise ourselves and so with £5,000 from the Peter Johnson Foundation and £5,000 from a very generous member, our budget came to £20,000.
After initial planning and getting design proposals, estimates for the work were obtained and after review by the RFU, we obtained approval to proceed.
The work commenced on Monday 10th November with a rip out of all of the existing furniture and fittings.
The work was completed in January 2015 and photographs of the work as it progressed, are available in this Flickr photo album.
